Less violent PUBG for China

Multiplayer shooting games have always maintained a steady level of popularity. From the golden days of the classic Counter-Strike to new blood like Fortnite, it’s clear that every generation will have its own massive shooter game that will be widespread across many players. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG is a multiplayer shooter game developed by Bluehole, and it’s one of the most popular in the genre. However, in certain countries, PUBG is seen as very problematic due to its violent tendencies. Game for Peace is China’s way of making PUBG available in the country without violating any of their content compliance laws.

A Brief History

Despite the large PUBG’s large user base in China, the game was never profitable in the country. This is due to China’s strict regulations of content resulting in the developers not being able to monetize and generate revenue from the game. In response, the game publisher Tencent created Game for Peace which is basically the same as PUBG except for a few minor differences.

Chinese PUBG

Game for Peace is essentially a Chinese version of PUBG. It’s not inaccurate to call it a PUBG clone in China. Most of PUBG’s core mechanics were lifted wholesale and applied to Game for Peace. In both games, players will compete against 100 other combatants in a battle royale arena fight. Weapons spawn across the field for players to pick up and use against their enemies. The objective is to be the last man standing in the field. As the game progresses, the arena gets smaller and smaller to force players to get closer and fight each other.

Differences From PUBG

Although it’s pretty much the same as PUBG in terms of mechanics and graphics, Game of Peace does differ from PUBG in one very important aspect: the level of violence. Game for Peace is noticeably less violent than PUBG. It still has a lot of shooting involved, but no blood can be seen in the game. Additionally, when you kill an opponent, instead of just dying, they wave at you and give you their belongings as a present. The interface is, of course, in Chinese since Game for Peace was made specifically for the Chinese market.

Hardly Any Difference

If you like playing PUBG but think it’s too violent, then Game for Peace is a great alternative. There’s no real difference between the two games other than the aesthetics and lack of violence. Of course, you’ll have to deal with the Chinese language interface, but since both games are quite intuitive, it won’t be a deal breaker. Game of Peace lets you experience more appropriate action and adventure than PUBG.
